Informed Consent

Engaging in counselling is a personal choice, and it is important that you have a clear understanding of what to expect. Informed consent means that you understand the nature of therapy, including its benefits, potential risks, and your rights as a client. Before beginning, please review the following information to ensure you feel comfortable moving forward.

Overview of Counselling
Counselling is a joint process where we work together to support your personal growth and address challenges related to thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Your involvement in therapy is entirely voluntary, and you are free to stop counselling at any point if you choose. Please remember that ending therapy may impact your progress, and we recommend discussing any concerns with your counsellor.

Session Information
Sessions are generally 50 minutes long, with longer sessions available for couples therapy. The fee for each session is $150. Payment is due at the time of service, and a receipt will be provided for your reference. If you use an Employment Assistance Program (EAP) or have pre-arranged payment terms, those will apply. For further details, please check our service fee page or get in touch with us.

Therapeutic Process and Potential Risks
Counselling can involve discussing difficult topics, past experiences, or intense emotions, which may sometimes cause discomfort or emotional reactions. These responses are a normal part of the healing journey, and your counsellor will work with you to navigate them in a constructive way. It’s important to be open about any emotional difficulties you face during or between sessions. You’re encouraged to take breaks or ask for assistance if needed.

Your Involvement in Therapy
Your active participation is key to the success of therapy. This includes being honest and open in sessions, taking positive steps towards your healing between appointments, and voicing any concerns or obstacles you face. Sharing information with your counsellor allows them to customize their approach to best suit your needs, and this partnership is essential in reaching your therapy goals.

Confidentiality
What you share during counselling remains confidential and will not be disclosed to others without your permission. However, there are exceptions to confidentiality, such as when there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if there’s suspicion of abuse of a child, elderly person, or dependent adult. Additionally, your counselling records could be subject to subpoena in a legal setting. Please feel free to discuss any questions regarding confidentiality with your counsellor.

Your Consent to Therapy
By providing your informed consent, you acknowledge that you understand the counselling process, including its potential benefits and risks, and agree to engage in therapy with this understanding. You have the right to ask about the counselling methods used, the goals of therapy, and what you can expect at any point during your therapy journey. Your counsellor is dedicated to creating a safe, confidential environment that supports you in achieving your therapeutic objectives. If you need more information or clarification, don’t hesitate to ask.

Therapy Goals and Progress
Together, we will establish goals for your therapy. Your counsellor will help you define these objectives and develop a plan to achieve them. We will regularly review your progress to ensure that the therapy is aligned with your needs and moving in a direction that supports your healing. If at any time you feel that the goals or process aren’t working for you, please bring it up.

Payment and Cancellation Policies
For detailed information about payment options, cancellation policies, and associated fees, please refer to the information provided on our                         page. By attending sessions, you agree to adhere to the terms outlined in that policy.
